How to Restore Microphone Input After Upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04

This document can help you restore your microphone input to your PC after you have upgraded it to Ubuntu 11.04. Mic Gurus gives a connector to which you have connected your microphone, you should need only select that front or rear connector.

Note: On my PC, upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04 set my microphone input to the front connector despite the fact I had not moved the input from the rear connector. I did not notice the problem until I needed the microphone.

Problem Description – Your microphone had been working correctly until you upgraded your PC to Ubuntu 11.04. However, you now have no microphone input.

Problem Resolution – To restore microphone input, you should need only reconfigure its connector. To select either the front or rear microphone connector, do the following:

1 – At the upper right corner of your desktop, click the speaker icon to display its window as shown in the first image above.

2 – Click “Sound Preferences,” and then click the “Input” tab.

3 – As shown in the second image above, in the Connector drop-down, select either Front Microphone or Rear Microphone depending on the connector to which you have connected your microphone.

Note: Also make sure the Input-volume Mute box has not been checked.
